Featuring an LED video light and a compact design, the SB-500 AF Speedlight from Nikon provides users with a portable unit for use specifically with Nikon's i-TTL metering system. The flash has good power with a guide number of 79' at ISO 100 and while no direct manual adjustments are available the output can be tuned via the camera's flash exposure compensation settings. The unit offers wide coverage for a 24mm lens with FX-format full-frame cameras and the 100 lux LED light has quarter, half, or full power output levels, which is beneficial for both video and close up still photography.

I'll be honest with you, I prefer natural light and I avoid flash if at all possible. But let's face it, sometimes it is necessary, and when it is, I want it to be as simple and reliable as possible. I just slap this on my D850, turn it on, and fire away, and I am pleased with the results.
The flash comes with a little plastic foot you can use to stand the flash up on a flat surface, and a nice little bag that has an inner pocket where you can store the foot.
perfect for my camera
This is an excellent flash for someone that doesn't want to haul around a huge hunk of equipment on their Nikon. It is simple and does the trick. It's the best step-up from the flash that is built-in on your Nikon. Get this one and skip the cheap ones that have a lot of (or looks) bells and whistles that you probably don't need.
